We start from zero.
1. Pencils & other stationaries
We need sketching pencils(HB, from B to 6B and from H to 4H), rubber(a normal one and a one for sketching) and a sketch book(choose any size you like, but most of us choose A4 size). Thes are the basic tools we need for pencil drawing.
What!? Is that all? No no no! We also need a pencil sharpener or a cutter knife(for professional sketching artist) to sharpen your pen. If you don not have one, please go to a stationary shop nearby and buy one.
Um, where to buy the stationaries? OF COURSE, IS THE STATIONARY SHOP! But if you want to buy them in good qualities, you can check them out in shops that are selling art tools. Where are them? Well, Mong Kok has a lot of shops selling art tools. Their locations? Try to Google them on your own! We do not make any commercial advertisements!
2. Reference pictures and books
If you really do not know what to draw or how the character looks like, we recommand you to search some pictures of ani-com characters on magazines or internet. We introduce you to use google search since it can search a lot of pictures in a few seconds. If you find some picture that are too small, don't worry! Using the picture to search the other same picture not only help you to find a bigger size picture, but also other similar picture that you will feel interested. You can check out the groups and fan pages of facebook for the pictures, too(Recommand by Ah Chak).
If you want to know how to draw a character without original pictures, you can try to look on some books which are teaching you skills of drawing ani-com character. You can find them on book stores and libraries. What are the names of the books? Well, again, we do not make any commercial advertisements and we want you all to try to look on these books and give a try on the method they have shown.
3. Good environment and time
For the environment for you to draw, that depends on what environment you like. You can draw at home, in the MTR, in the school, in the park. It can be anywhere except some places which can disturb you drawing easily. Restaurants, canteen in your schools and some dirty places are not suitable places. Also, you should notice that food and drinks should not be put in your working area(except bottle drinks,but remember to close bottle cap).
Time is also important. If you choose the wrong time to start drawing, it will cause a lot of bad effect. Remeber not to choose the time of having classes(except Visual Art), working(except drawing comic or doujin works) and having a meal. You should not start drawing while having so much important homework or project to do.

Prepare well before Drawing
Confucius said that in the past:"A workman must sharpen his tools if he wants to do his work well." For drawing, we also need to prepare tools and other important things.
4. Basic skills
The most importanat preparation in pencil drawing is sketching. In sketching, you will learn a lot of skills of drawing, for example, highlights, shadow, drop shadow,gradient color, how to measure real objects, etc. Some of our artists learn sketching before drawing ani-com characters.
If you are confident, you can choose to start drawing without skills of sketching. Some of our members are confident on their drawings although they didn't draw skatching before. They drew very well. If you are confident, why not get a try of it!?
